Intego virusbarrier x6 review 2012 pro#
Instead of a slow, barely usable MacBook Pro I'd get a spinning beach ball of death. I'd kill the process with Activity Monitor and things would return to normal, although often another of the processes would then start taking 100% CPU. Only 1 would be in this state, there would be several to many others running just fine. Using Activity Monitor I'd find a "virusvarriers" taking 100% CPU. Using X6 version my computer sometimes would run slow and hot. A lot of nice features including a 2 way fire wall, setting the features based on location, etc.

The new version is cleaner and better looking. I've used Intego's Suite for some time, and jumped at the latest version. I won’t run VB/NB until Intego cleans its apps up. Now, I don’t really care if the problem is an interaction with other apps (I routinely run 18–20 apps and around 30 Preference Panes and/or Background Apps), but when and app crashes my system, I consider it to be malware. I temporarily unplugged the power to reset the SMC, booted it up again, was able to reset PRAM, booted into Safe mode, and when it came up, uninstalled X8 and rebooted in normal mode: no problem since. I force started again and held down the cmd-opt-PR keys to reset PRAM: nothing.

I forced started again and held the opt key to bring up my external bootable disc: nothing. I force started again and held down the Shift key to start in Safe Mode: nothing. I forced shutdown by holding the start button and then restarted by pressing it again: it hung with the spinning wheel of death. The next morning, the CPU wouldn’t wake up when I clicked the mouse, and with energy saving turning off the screen, I couldn’t even see if there were any tell tails as to why it crashed on the screen: pressing the startup button to wake the machine up did nothing.

It is, however, a problem in general with VB and Intego should have fixed it long ago.Ī few weeks ago, I purchased an upgrade to VB/NB X8 and installed in on my MacPro and set it up to do a complete scan of the 500 GB Disk overnight. With 24 GB of RAM, this wasn’t a problem. Now, VB has always been a memory and CPU hog because it spawns multiple processes to scan files, and until I upgraded RAM from 8 GB to 24 GB, I used to go into Activity Monitor and Kill five or six of the spawned processes every time things got sluggish.

You do understand that these 'commercial' anti-virus companies spend a TON of money on the front lines trapping and identifying these new threats and keeping their products up to date.Mac Premium Bundle X9 is a comprehensive suite of security software that is designed for both personal and professional use.

It isn't about a 'virus' for a Mac, although those are coming, at least according to the 'experts' that track these things, it is about all the other junk out there in the form of malware and other social attacks.Īll Mac users aren't as sophisticated and worldly as you position youself to be, and your seeming opinion that the Mac is somehow pure and clean and not susceptable to the icky stuff out there is just a bit out of date. As seems to be typical for you, your comments are less than helpful to anyone and are just showing a personal position that doesn't completely resonate with today's internet threats.
